About Us

The Coast Guard Auxiliary is a civilian volunteer organization which supports the U. S. Coast Guard, primarily in the promotion of boating safety through public education, courtesy vessel safety checks, safety patrols afloat, and search and rescue operations.

In addition, the auxiliary offers ample opportunity for members to serve the public using the skills they have learned.  Such opportunities include participating in Public Affairs events, Safety Patrols afloat, standing radio watches at Cove Point, conducting vessel safety checks, and serving as instructors in boating safety classes.

Public Affairs missions involve an Auxiliary presence at public events to spread the word about boating safety and the Auxiliary. Linda Edwards was in charge of this activity during 2004.

Aside from educational enrichment and operational activities, the auxiliary offers a number of social events at the local and division levels. These events encourage members to interact with not only the members in their own flotilla, but extends camaraderie and fellowship to members of other flotillas.

Flotilla 23-2 is part of the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Division 15.  Currently, our flotilla has 51 active members, 7 vessel facilities (safety patrol craft), and 3 radio facilities.  Our Flotilla serves the Solomons area, including the Patuxent River and the lower Potomac River.   Flotilla meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7 located on Chancellors Run Road in Great Mills, Maryland.   Come and join us at any meeting.  Interested members of the public are always welcome.
